Going through some pictures from Expo last year, I found these. Gottlieb’s Subway, made in 1966 with a confirmed production run of 3200 games according to IPDB. I love animated back glasses on EM pinballs, it has subway car doors that open and close. What can I say? I’m easily amused.

I first saw it during Roger Sharp’s seminar for his upcoming film “Pinball The Man Who Saved The Game.” In one of the preview clips he was playing it and I thought it would be great if one was here at Expo.

It looked like a cool game and I wanted to play it. After the seminar I went down to the game hall and found one but it was off for some reason. The next day it was back on and I was able to play it. It’s one of those frustratingly fun games, kinda like Doodlebug which I wrote about a few years ago.

The pinball Gods giveth and the pinball Gods taketh away. Subway is also an add-a-ball game where you can add additional balls to play. Unlike an extra ball, it will count added balls to your “balls to play” count. It’s a feature that I always liked.

Speakeasy, made in 1982, is an early Bally SS game that has add-a-ball as well, but it can also take balls away via the roulette wheel. I can’t remember if there are shots that will take balls away or not.
I don’t think Subway has the subtract-a-ball feature though. Is add-a-ball a feature you like and would like to see in newer games?
